Ex-Pitcher Charlie Haeger Found Dead, Was Sought For Murder


Haeger, 37, found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Haeger was sought by police in the death of 34-year old ex-girlfriend Danielle Breed Long in Scottsdale Friday. Haeger's unoccupied vehicle was found 112 miles north in Flagstaff. Per a Phoenix television report, Long, a local bar owner, seeked a restraining order against Haeger.


A knuckleball pitcher, Haeger had stints with the White Sox, Padres and Dodgers from 2006 through 2010. In recent years Haeger had worked with the Tampa Bay Rays organization and was hired by the Chicago Cubs to be the pitching coach of the organizations AA affiliate for the 2020 season.
