The preseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year collapses moments after scoring on an alley-top dunk against Florida State. A junior from Norfolk, Va., Johnson came into the game averaging 19.7 points per game and considered an NBA prospect. Those of a certain age remember the tragic stories of Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis, along with several incidents involving National Hockey League players in recent years. Gathers died moments after an alley-oop for Loyola Marymount University during a West Coast Conference tournament game on March 4, 1990. Today's scheduled game between Florida and Florida State did resume.
