Mack Motzko, Son Of Gophers Hockey Coach, Dies In Car Accident

Terrible and devastating news out of the tight-knit Minnesota hockey community. It has been reported that Mack Motzko, 20, was one of two passengers killed in a single-car accident in Orono, Minnesota just before midnight on Saturday night. The other victim was age 24, the 51-year old driver is reported to be critically injured. Per a press release, alcohol and high speed appear to be causes that led to the crash. Motzko was a member of state hockey tournament teams for St. Cloud Cathedral High School and Minnetonka High School. Father Bob Motzko is the head hockey coach at the University of Minnesota and previously served in the same capacity for St. Cloud State University.

This past season Motzko played junior hockey for the Sioux Falls Stampede and the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Deepest condolences to the Motzko family along with friends and teammates.
