Nolan Arenado Headed For St. Louis Cardinals

The divide between the haves and have nots in the National League deepened Friday night with reports of multi-time All-Star/Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado being dealt from the Colorado Rockies to the St. Louis Cardinals. The deal was reported by The Athletic Possible players headed to Colorado include pitcher Carlos Martinez, infielder Matt Carpenter and prospects. The Rockies will also send significant cash (around $50 million) to St. Louis and Arenado would also defer money.

The deal is not expected to become official this weekend. Arenado will need to waive his no-trade clause and opt-out clause scheduled after the 2021 season. The news comes as several National League teams, including the Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs have been tightening their belts financially.
